What is ReadyPrompter and how does it work?
ReadyPrompter is a professional teleprompter that runs as a single HTML file in your web browser. No installation required. Open the file, enter your license key once, and you're ready. Your scripts are saved automatically in your browser between sessions.
How do I activate my license key?
When you first open ReadyPrompter, you'll see the License Activation screen. Enter your name and the license key from your purchase confirmation email. Click Activate ReadyPrompter. Activation takes about one second and is saved permanently in your browser.
Creating your first script
After activation, click New Script from the splash screen or the + button in the scripts panel. Give your script a name by clicking the title at the top of the editor. Start typing — your work saves automatically on every keystroke.
Understanding the five views
ReadyPrompter has five main views: Splash (launch screen with quick actions), Editor (write and manage scripts), Teleprompter (full-screen presentation mode), Phone Remote (connect a second device), and Help (documentation in-app).
Writing and formatting scripts
The editor accepts plain text. Write naturally — short sentences read better on camera than long ones. Use blank lines between paragraphs to create natural breathing space. Word count and estimated reading time are shown at the bottom.
Using stage directions [in brackets]
Wrap any text in [square brackets] to mark it as a stage direction. During presentation, stage directions appear in gold and are visually distinct from your spoken words. Use them for slide cues, energy reminders, pause indicators, and transition notes.
Auto-save and script management
Every keystroke saves automatically. There is no save button and nothing to forget. Scripts persist between browser sessions. Creator and Pro users can export any script as a text file using the Export button in the toolbar.
Importing from Google Docs (Creator/Pro)
In Google Docs, go to File → Share → Publish to web. Choose Plain text format and copy the URL. In ReadyPrompter, click Import in the toolbar and paste the URL into the Google Docs field. Your script imports as a new script in your list.
Drag and drop file import
Drag a .txt or .docx file directly onto the ReadyPrompter editor area to import it as a new script. The text content is extracted and loaded immediately.
Starting a presentation
Click Present in the editor toolbar to enter full-screen teleprompter mode. Your script scrolls at your chosen WPM. Controls fade after a few seconds and return when you move your mouse or tap the screen.
Keyboard shortcuts
Space: Play/Pause · ↑/↓ Arrow: WPM ±10 · R: Restart · M: Mirror mode · V: Voice tracking · H: Hide/show controls · N: Next cue marker · Esc: Exit teleprompter · F11: Browser fullscreen
Mirror mode for hardware setups
Press M to flip the script horizontally for use with professional beam-splitter teleprompter hardware. Your mirror preference is saved between sessions.
Session stats and WPM analytics
At the end of each presentation session, ReadyPrompter shows your elapsed time and actual average WPM. This helps you calibrate your delivery speed over time.
How voice tracking works
ReadyPrompter listens through your microphone using your browser's built-in speech recognition and advances the script word-by-word as you speak. When you pause or improvise, it stops and waits for you to continue. Everything runs locally on your device.
Browser requirements
Voice tracking requires Chrome or Edge. Safari and Firefox do not currently support the Web Speech API required for this feature. The rest of ReadyPrompter works in all modern browsers.
Microphone setup tips
Use a quality microphone for best results. Built-in laptop microphones can struggle in noisy environments. Position your microphone consistently between sessions. Keep your browser tab in focus during voice-tracked presentations.
Troubleshooting voice tracking
If voice tracking isn't working: 1) Confirm you're using Chrome or Edge. 2) Allow microphone permission when your browser asks. 3) Check that your microphone is selected in your system settings. 4) Try reloading the page and starting fresh.
Adding cue markers
Open the Cues tab in the right settings panel. Position your cursor where you want the marker in the editor, then click Add Cue at Cursor. Give the cue a descriptive name like 'Product demo start' or 'Q&A section'.
Navigating cues during presentation
Gold dots appear in the left margin of the teleprompter at each marker position. Press N to jump to the next cue. Click any gold dot to jump directly to that position.
Using cues with the phone remote
Creator and Pro users can jump to any named cue directly from the phone remote — no need to touch the main screen. This is especially useful for skipping sections or jumping to specific segments during live presentations.
Setup and connection
On your main computer, click Phone Remote from the splash screen. A 6-digit code appears. On your phone, open ReadyPrompter and tap Phone Remote, then enter the 6-digit code. Both devices must be on the same WiFi network.
What you can control remotely
All plans: Play/Pause, speed adjustment (WPM), restart. Creator/Pro: Switch between scripts remotely, jump to named cue markers by name. This script-switching capability is unique to ReadyPrompter — no competitor offers it.
Creator vs Pro: feature comparison
Creator ($59): Unlimited scripts, voice tracking, WPM control, stage directions, phone remote with script switching, cue markers, Google Docs import, OpenDyslexic font, export, all future Creator updates. Pro ($99): Everything in Creator, plus AI script rewriter, AI pacing coach, cloud sync, foot pedal support, priority support, all future features.
How to upgrade from Creator to Pro
Purchase a Pro license at readyprompter.com. You'll receive a new Pro key by email. Open ReadyPrompter — your license activation screen accepts the new key. Enter it to upgrade. Your existing scripts and settings are fully preserved.
License key format and activation
Creator keys begin with RPRC-. Pro keys begin with RPRP-. Keys are 16 characters in the format XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. Your key is case-insensitive and tied to your name for single-user use.
Using ReadyPrompter on multiple devices
Your license key works on any personal device you own. Just open ReadyPrompter on the new device and enter your name and license key on the activation screen. Activation is saved in each browser's local storage.
Voice tracking not working
Confirm you're using Chrome or Edge (not Safari or Firefox). Allow microphone permission when prompted. Check your system microphone settings. If problems persist, reload the page and try again.
License key not accepted
Double-check you're entering the key exactly as received (copy-paste recommended). Make sure you've entered your name in the Name field. Creator keys start with RPRC-, Pro keys start with RPRP-. Contact support@readyprompter.com if issues continue.
Script not saving
ReadyPrompter saves to your browser's local storage. If scripts are disappearing, check that your browser isn't set to clear storage on exit (private/incognito mode does this). Use a regular (non-private) browser window for full persistence.
App not loading correctly
Try a full page reload (Ctrl+Shift+R or Cmd+Shift+R). If issues persist, clear your browser cache and reload. Make sure you're using a supported browser. Contact support if the problem continues.
